Metalica and Dewalt wordmarks

I selected the Metallica wordmark because I think it does a very good job using the highly stylized M and A to evoke thoughts of edgy, metalic, sharp items like concertina wire, spear, fishhook or even lightning bolts, all of which embodies the style of the band’s electrifying heavy metal music.

I chose the Dewalt Tools wordmark for their simple, solid construction using all capital letters. I think the yellow and black that make up the wordmark are well chosen because they mirror the traditional color of larger construction machinery as well as safety and caution warnings typical to construction sites.

  1. In thinking of Miley Cyrus, I shake my head at the world and simply say, “The world needs more metal.” I always thought it was funny that metal-rock music was always thought of as a gift from the Thunder Gods. I am pretty sure that when Metallica was coming up with this design, someone was asking, “How would Zeus give the devil-horns to the world.” I think in that aspect, and it might be weird to say it like this, it puts metal-fans at ease. Just by looking at the logo, they know they are in the right place.

  2. I totally agree with you, but the Metallica wordmark is especially memorable, it’s instantly recognizable. If I didn’t know who Metallica was, I’d assume they were a rock band.
